Indian Navy News – In a significant step towards strengthening maritime security and regional cooperation, the Indian Navy has successfully completed a comprehensive refit of the Maldivian Coast Guard Ship MNDF Huravee at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The vessel departed for the Maldives on April 21, 2025, following four months of extensive maintenance and upgrades.

  • The refit, which began on November 13, 2024, included servicing critical machinery, weapons, and sensors, alongside a habitability upgrade to enhance crew comfort.
  • The ship underwent rigorous harbour and sea trials, operational checks, safety audits, and Operational Sea Training to ensure peak performance.
  • The collaborative efforts of multiple Indian Navy units and dockyard teams ensured the project was completed on schedule, highlighting India’s technical expertise and commitment to timely delivery.

This milestone underscores the deepening defence partnership between India and the Maldives, aligning with India’s 'Neighbourhood First' policy and the 'MAHASAGAR' vision for mutual maritime security and regional growth. The MNDF Huravee, handed over to the Maldives National Defence Force in May 2023 as a 'Make in India' initiative, has been pivotal in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations and medical evacuations across the Maldivian archipelago.

The successful refit reaffirms India’s role as a steadfast partner in enhancing the Maldives’ maritime capabilities, fostering stronger bilateral ties and regional stability
